National Science Foundation TCUP-STEM Student Demographic Assessment
Date Started in Spring 2004.

Description The information gathered through this survey is to obtain information from the students enrolled at Kapi`olani Community College, in order to improve student preparation for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) majors

Heart Rate Variability Experiment
Date Started in Fall 2003.
Contact Dr. John D. Rand at Kapi`olani Community College.
Description The purpose of those assessment is to gather information from patients who are participating in a physiological experiment. those results will be crucial in trying to characterize and interprete the physiological data.
MOOAT is also used to schedule appointments over the Web. Students can review the experiment requirement, and description and set up a meeting directly on the Web.

National Science Foundation TCUP-STEM
Date Started in Fall 2003.

Description This project differs from standard assessment projects. This is a tool that has been initiated in order to faciliate communication between the PIs and other faculty members involved in the TCUP Grant project.

Art and Science Counseling
Date Continuous assessment
surveys are being conducted since Spring 2003.

Description This assessment's purpose is to improve the services provided by Arts and Sciences counseling by gathering opinions directly from the students. Results are displayed to students upon submitting their answer to the survey. A more extensive result format including the written comments is also available, but restricted to Dr. Sheldon Tawata.

Online Student Evaluation of Instruction
Date At the end of every semester
Assessments are being conducted since Fall 2002.
Contact Peggy Cha, Kauai Community College chancellor
and Prof. Judith Kirkpatrick, Kapi`olani Community College.
Description At the end of every semesters, students get a chance to evaluate their instructors. This service was primarily offered for faculty of the University of Hawai`i system who were teaching Online courses. However, this service has been extended to all instructors.
Instructors need to subscribe about a month before the end of the semester in order to be able to offer this assessment to students.
Instructors are contacted via email and the results are available in PDF or PS format.
A guideline for interpretations of the results is available.

New developments are currently being done: those will allow instructors to add their OWN questions to the survey.

Results Results are available to each instructors and are private.

UHCC.e-learn Survey
Date At every beginning and end of semesters
Data are being gathered since Fall 2002.
Contact Peggy Cha, Kauai Community College chancellor
and Prof. Judith Kirkpatrick, Kapi`olani Community College.
Description Those two assessments are conducted by the University of Hawai`i Community College Distance Education committee on assessment every semester for all communities colleges in Hawai`i. The service is proposed every semester to all faculty members of the UH system who are teaching Online courses.
The results of each assessment is posted on the web in HTML format for each instructor who can log in to their personal Web space to view results of all their personal classes. A cumulative report is also available and posted on a public Web site.
Instructors can log in to their personal space to check how many students took the survey during the assessment period and can also check ALL classes responses with the number of students who took the survey anytime during the assessmet period.
Instructors are usually contacted prior to the survey via email.
