English for Speakers of Other Languages Assessment (ESOL)

Description This assessment's purpose was to gather information about ESOL students.A Web system was set up for Ann Ching to be able to check in real time how many students took the survey; the results were sorted by class CRN.

Arts and Sciences Department Chair Assessment
Date November to December 2004

Description This assessment's purpose was for Kapi`olani Communituy College faculty to evaluate their respective Chair. Five surveys were available for the following departments: Arts and Humanities, Arts and Sciences counseling, Languages Linguistics and Literature, Math and Sciences, and Social Sciences.

Humanities Department Chair Assessment

National Science Foundation Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) Student Demographics Assessment
Date From February to March 2004, and March 2005

Description This assessment's purpose was to gather information concerning students enrolled in science classes at Kapi`olani Community College to help students prepare for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) majors. The Web tabulation was performed by MOOsurvey and the analysis was done by Frank Abousayf.

Social Science Department Chair Assessment

Faculty Senate Vote

Description The purpose of this project was to allow faculty members of Kapi`olani Community college to vote online concerning the revision of the Constitution.
In this project, an email was sent to instructors with two URLs. The first one would point to a Yes vote, while the second to a NO vote. Instructors would only need to click on the appropriate URL and can vote only once.
A system has been put in place so that people could vote in person at the cafeteria where a wireless computer (thank you to Karl Naito for making the laptop technology available) could access the database and allow them to vote.
A result page that updates itself every time it was accessed was also available to the organisors.

Holomua Department Chair Assessment

Hawai'i Information Technology Workforce Survey
Date From January 2002 to March 2002

Description This assessment purpose was to obtain information about the perceptions, attitudes and opinions regarding the high technology sector in Hawaii. 300 high technology companies in the State of Hawai`i were being asked to participate to two different surveys.
An email was sent to each company to describe the project, and another email was sent with a URL with a key embedded for authentication purposes. A reminder email was also sent half way through the assessment period to remind companies that had not taken the survey yet.
